A selection of dwarf Spireas, ideal for pot and container cultivation. These are deciduous compact bushes with spring or summer flowering that are particularly suitable for container cultivation, to decorate balconies and terraces. Spireas are appreciated for their generous flowering and ease of cultivation. They have fast growth and develop a naturally rounded and dense habit, not exceeding 1m (3ft) in height. Their flowering extends from April to August depending on the species and varieties, in bouquets or clusters of small flowers ranging from pure white to pink. This is the case, in particular, of the 'Dart's Red' cultivar, Spiraea japonica 'Nana' with pink flowers, but also the Birchleaf Spirea 'Tor Gold' with its white flowers and golden foliage in summer. New selections, notably the 'Double Play' series (Double Play Big Bang, Double Play Blue Kazoo) combine moderate growth, beautifully coloured foliage from spring to autumn, and a beautiful flowering display.
Hardy, Spireas grow in ordinary, consistent soil, including slightly chalky, in sunny or partially shaded sites.
