Called knotweed or persicaires and formerly Polygonum, Persicaria are considered invasive plants by some. This bad reputation, mainly conveyed by the Japanese knotweed (Fallopia or Reynoutria japonica), is not justified for other varieties of persicaires. They are very trendy, Persicaria are suitable for both contemporary gardens and gardens with a wild appearance. They form beautiful autumn scenes with grasses such as miscanthus, molinies, and panicums. Often very floriferous, some like Persicaria amplexicaulis flower from early summer to late autumn. ThesePlants do well in moist soil, many also tolerate heavy and clayey soils very well. Knotweeds are  hardy, they do not mind wet and harsh winters.
