Persicaria tenuicaulis - Slender Bistort

The Persicaria tenuicaulis is a lovely spring ground cover, forming a carpet of dark green leaves with a wine red reverse topped by short pure white spikes adorned with small intense black stamens, creating a striking contrast.

This small knotweed forms a dense tufted base, on which beautiful small, ovate-elongated leaves, dark green with a wine red reverse, develop in spring.

Rather early (for a knotweed), the floral stems, also red, bear at their tip fine spikes of pure white flowers adorned with small intense black stamens.

Plant the Persicaria tenuicaulis in partial shade, in a rich and moist soil. Install it either at the edge of a woodland, as it tolerates competition from tree roots very well, at the border of a flowerbed or in a pot on a shaded terrace.
