Among stonecrops, white flowers open on small stonecrops that carpet rockeries, or on upright varieties intended for borders. Flowering may begin in May or appear in late summer, depending on the species. These succulent perennials thrive in full sun, in well-drained soil, even if it is dry, stony or chalky. The nectar-rich flowers are visited by numerous insects.

On a clump approximately 40 cm tall, Sedum spectabile 'Stardust' produces broad white flowerheads in September, which then take on a creamy tint. Sedum divergens grows no taller than 10 cm: its evergreen foliage is dotted with small white flowers from late spring onwards. Sedum spurium 'Album Superbum' spreads rapidly along paths and between stones, while 'Coral Carpet' forms a dense carpet whose small leaves turn red in autumn and winter.

Low-growing varieties naturally complement a selection of perennials for rockeries, while taller stonecrops accompany drought-tolerant perennials. Mat-forming stonecrops root easily when in contact with the soil; our tutorial "How to propagate stonecrops?" will guide you through propagation by cuttings and dividing taller stonecrops.
