Astrantias, Astrantia in Latin, are very beautiful perennial plants of fresh meadows forming small umbels of flowers surrounded by colored bracts of pink, green, white or red depending on the varieties. From the very intense astrantia 'Moulin Rouge' to the virginal astrantia 'Shaggy', these wonders with delicate flowers never fail to attract attention. Perennial and robust, Astrantias thrive wherever the soil is rich and fresh. They bloom in spring and some of them are perpetual and bloom again at the end of summer. In the garden, they will grow in the middle of the flower bed or along the border. They are often associated with campanulate, roses, and perennial geraniums and they form magnificent compositions with Carex, or heucheras.
