Primroses or Primulas are endearing plants that are never as beautiful as when planted in mass, alongside pathways or in flowerbeds. Why not try sowing them, for numerous plants that will quickly make an impact in the garden. We love their flowering so much, which is among the earliest of the year and, as with the famous garden primrose, offers countless colours. Primroses, more or less perennial or biennial, form rosettes of oval leaves, more or less wide, and bear inflorescences in bouquets, umbels or clusters depending on the species. They all like good garden soil in a rather semi-shaded position. Among those that are offered in seed form, we could mention Primula veris (P.officinalis) and Primula vulgaris, the pretty and faithful 'cowslips' of our countryside. Also Auricula primroses that dislike noisture and are perfect for rockeries, or garden primroses (Primula x polyantha) with their wavy foliage and large solitary flowers from February to April.
