Fruit-bearing honeysuckles, also known as honeyberries or May berries, are bushes producing delicious small fruits derived from Lonicera caerulea kamtschatica. Their dark blue berries, rich in vitamins and antioxidants, resemble blueberries with a sweet and slightly tangy flavour. They are valued in gourmet gardens or home orchards. They are also called May berries.
Among the standout varieties, Lonicera caerulea ‘Honey Bee’ stands out for its generous yield and intensely fragrant, juicy fruits. Lonicera caerulea ‘Boreal Beauty’, a later variety, offers fleshy berries, perfect for jams, desserts, or eating fresh. These hardy bushes withstand extreme temperatures down to -40°C and adapt to various climates.
They thrive in rich, moist, non-calcareous soil and prefer a sunny exposure. For an abundant harvest, consider pairing several compatible varieties to ensure good cross-pollination.
