Our range of heathers for chalky soil. Unlike heathers which prefer acid soil some species like Erica carnea, Erica x darleyensis or Erica terminalis tolerate neutral to slightly calcareous soils. These evergreen shrubs are valuable for landscaping difficult terrains.

The most well-known is Erica x darleyensis 'Kramer's Rote', very floriferous in winter, with its purplish-pink bells from January. It tolerates calcareous soils well and forms a dense mat of 30 to 40 cm. 'Wintersonne' is a selection of Erica carnea that offers brown-reddish foliage and winter flowers of an incandescent pink. More rare, Erica terminalis grows in calcareous soil and offers dark pink flowering from spring, on shiny dark green foliage. Don't forget Erica multiflora, with a bushy habit, which flowers in autumn in the dry and calcareous scrublands of the South.

Plant these heathers in sun or partial shade, in well-drained soil. Avoid stagnant moisture. Light pruning after flowering will help maintain their compact shape.
