Among the ferns of the Adiantum genus, the Adiantum capillus-veneris, commonly known as capillary or maidenhair fern, is a graceful indoor plant popular and appreciated for its infinitely light foliage of a very fresh green. However, other hardy species and varieties of Adiantum are perfectly suited to outdoor cultivation. These are Adiantum pedatum or A.venustum, very elegant plants from cold climates and of great ornamental value, an absolute must-see. They thrive in cool climates and shaded locations where they form delicate ground covers: plant adiantum in flower beds, under trees, in the company of Epimediums and azaleas, for example, but also in a shaded rockery with primroses, hostas, heucheras, forget-me-nots and many others.
