All our varieties of Icelandic poppies. This short-lived perennial poppy, Papaver nudicaule, grown as an annual or biennial, produces satiny flowers borne on thin, flexible stems. The ‘Champagne Bubbles’ series is the most well-known: it offers single flowers in bright, luminous shades, from pure yellow to creamy white, through to orange and pink. Nudicaulous poppy 'Gartenzwerg' is a compact and floriferous variety, ideal for making bouquets. ‘Pulchinella Mixed’ mix offers large single flowers in solid and remarkably vibrant shades. As for the ‘Artist’s Glory’ variety, it shines with its varied hues and generous flowering on finely cut foliage.
The Icelandic poppy, unlike the Oriental poppy, prefers cool climates. It thrives in sun or partial shade, in a light, well-drained, humus-bearing soil. Sow it directly in place or plant your young poppies in spring or autumn. It does not tolerate heat and stagnant moisture well.
