Our mint seeds. Sow this aromatic plant in the vegetable garden or in a pot near the kitchen. Spearmint, Peppermint and Pennyroyal offer different fragrances, but always the characteristic freshness appreciated in drinks, desserts, sauces and infusions. Mint, or Mentha, is a fragrant perennial in the Lamiaceae family, with highly aromatic foliage, and is easy to grow in the garden or on a balcony. It grows readily in rich, moist soil, in sun or partial shade.
Spearmint is a bushy variety with long, broad and highly aromatic leaves and a clear, pronounced fragrance. Peppermint is sought after for its fresher, peppery scent, well suited to culinary uses and infusions. Pennyroyal stands out for its fragrance, similar to that of spearmint but more robust, with a lemony note that holds well when dried. Curly mint is recognisable by its dense, heavily textured and highly aromatic foliage, making it useful in the kitchen or in a pot near the house. Depending on the variety, mint can therefore be grown for everyday use in the kitchen, for refreshing drinks or for harvests to dry.
It is also worth bearing in mind that mint is vigorous and somewhat invasive, which makes it both appealing and its main drawback in the garden.
Mint seeds are sown in spring, in rich, moist soil, in gentle sun or partial shade. Sow thinly in a fine-textured substrate, cover the seeds very lightly, keep the sowing moist until germination, then thin out the young plants.
