Our savory seeds include Summer savory, Satureja hortensis, and Winter savory, Satureja montana, two aromatic Provençal herbs with finely peppered foliage, to sow in the vegetable garden. These culinary and medicinal plants, annual or perennial depending on the species, flavour stews, grilled dishes, pulses, and herbal teas.
Among the annuals, the Organic annual summer Savory forms small clumps with fine, well-scented and slightly peppered foliage, harvested fresh or dried from June to November. Among the perennials, the creeping or Prostrate Savory (Satureja spicigera), is a groundcover plant with very aromatic small dark green leaves and melliferous white flowering in early summer.
Very comfortable in slightly arid, sun-baked spots, savory finds its place in the ornamental garden, at the edge of a border or in a rockery.

Sow savory seeds in spring in situ in warmed and crumbled soil, covering them very lightly. Keep the soil just moist with regular but moderate watering until germination, then thin out the ranks and hoe regularly to aerate the soil and limit weeds. The main difficulty concerns clay and waterlogged soils, where it is preferable to grow savory on a mound or in a pot.
