Our Heliotrope Range. Highly appreciated for their sweet vanilla-like fragrance, heliotropes (Heliotropium arborescens) add much charm to patios or gardens. The Peruvian Heliotrope 'Marine', with its violet-blue flowers, and the 'White Lady' variety, with its highly fragrant white umbels, are must-haves. The 'Princess Marina' stands out with its lavender flowers, while the 'Fragrant Delight' offers a mauve hue and an intense fragrance. The 'Chatsworth' Heliotrope, with its deep blue flowers, is also very popular. The 'Cherry Pie' cultivar is distinguished by its soft pink to purple flowers, always offering a sweet, vanilla-like fragrance.
Native to Peru, Heliotrope are tender shrubby perennial plants with a bushy habit, grown in pots or as a summer annual for their beautiful flowering. They love sunny exposures and light, rich, well-drained soil. In pots or in the ground, make sure to water them regularly to stimulate flowering. In cold regions, you should bring your potted plants indoors before winter, as you would with citrus trees.
