Description

Aster carolinianus is the only climbing species of the genus. This liana, native to the marshy regions of the southeastern USA, can reach a height of up to 5m (16ft). It is covered with an abundance of small pale-pink flowers at the end of the season. The flowering lasts until the heart of winter if conditions are not too harsh. The foliage is evergreen if the winter is mild. It takes on beautiful winter colours. Hardy, it nevertheless requires a sheltered position.

To be grown in full sun, in soil that is neither too wet nor too dry. This species will require tying when planted along a wall or pergola as it cannot attach itself. When planted at the base of a bush, the plant will have better autonomy and will climb on its own.
