With some tulip and hyacinth bulbs, I create a superb planter. Young plants healthy and convenient in mini pots.

Description

The primroses in this Primula F1 'Rosanna' Mix have double flowers, with a unique charm, reminiscent of rose-buds, in a palette of very varied colors. They come in pastel or vibrant shades, but always pure and sparkling in colour. They appear from January to April, on a beautiful crinkled and shiny bright green foliage. Long neglected, these biennial double primroses with a long flowering season are making a noticeable comeback in planters and borders. They are reliable, resistant, easy to grow in moist, fertile soil, and even bloom in shade.

The mixed Primula vulgaris (acaulis) 'Rosanna' is an herbaceous biennial plant in the primrose family, derived from the Primula vulgaris commonly found in our meadows and woodlands. It is part of a series of recent cultivars that stand out for their long spring flowering, from January to April-May, their double flowers and their very pure colors. The plants flower abundantly in a lovely, dense foliage forming clumps within in a few months, reaching a height of 10 to 15 cm (3.9 - 5.9 in) and width of 20 cm (7.9 in). They develop semi-evergreen rosettes of crinkled and veined leaves, slightly upright, in a beautiful shiny dark green. 'Rosanna' produces tightly-packed double flowers, in various shades of red, pink, orange, purple or yellow, gathered in perfect little clusters. They are carried by short hairy stalks surrounded by lush foliage collars.

'Rosanna' primroses are versatile, reliable, and really easy to grow. They deserve a place in every garden and balcony. Colourful and full of flowers, they herald the return of spring joyfully. In border plantings or in containers on a balcony, these little plants are ideal companions for tulips, pansies, horned violets, forget-me-nots, or low-growing perennials. Under the cover of deciduous trees, in rockeries and lawns, they thrive amongst snowdrops and violets. The leaves and flowers are edible and can be consumed raw or cooked.

Properties:

They are the same as those of the cowslip or oxlip: the flowers are soothing and calming and can be used in expectorant preparations. The leaves help prevent bruising, and the whole plant (especially the root) has analgesic, anti-spasmodic, diuretic and expectorant properties.

Note: Please be aware that our young plant plugs are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible, into containers, flowerpots, or directly into flowerbeds.

Planting and care

Stemless primroses 'Rosanna' can be planted in pots and containers or directly into the ground in a carefully prepared and improved soil. Plant them as soon as possible upon receipt, in September-October. If the intended location is not ready yet or if the conditions are unfavourable for planting, you can grow them in pots for 4 to 6 weeks.

In pots and containers, use a good, light,well-draining potting mix for flowering plants (such as geranium potting mix) enriched with clay and slow-release fertilizer. The top of the root ball should be level with the potting mix. Water thoroughly at planting and during the following weeks, as the plug plants can dry out quickly. However, be careful not to water excessively! Make sure to use containers with drainage holes and empty the saucer 10 minutes after watering. Remember to water, even during winter, if it doesn't rain or if the container is placed in a sheltered spot. Do not water during periods of frost.

Very floriferous and fast-growing, biennial primroses are nutrient-demanding plants. As soon as growth resumes, in late February or early March, and throughout the flowering period, apply a liquid fertilizer for flowering plants containing iron and trace elements 1 to 2 times a week when watering. Deadhead to encourage new blooms. Once flowering is over, plants in pots can be replanted in the garden in partial shade.
