Description

Primula Cabaret 'Bicolour Rose & Yellow' is a particularly attractive variety of primrose selected for its especially late flowering and its large, brightly bicoloured flowers. Their lemon-yellow heart, edged with fuchsia pink, brings a lively and cheerful touch to spring beds and containers. Planted in autumn, this compact primrose flowers from March to April on embossed, dark green foliage that remains evergreen in winter. Easy to grow, it thrives both in the ground and in pots, in gentle sun or partial shade, in moist, well-drained soil.

Primula vulgaris Cabaret 'Bicolour Rose & Yellow' is a new-generation hybrid variety, from the Cabaret F1 series renowned for its floribundus nature, compactness, and reliability. This primrose stands out above all for its vivid and contrasting colouring: its large flowers, measuring 4 to 5 cm in diameter, display a bold play of colours in yellow and pink. The flowering of this variety occurs well after that of the earliest primroses. The flowers, borne on short peduncles and grouped in tight clusters, emerge just above the foliage, creating a beautiful mass effect, almost covering the foliage. The foliage forms a low, dense rosette, composed of broadly ovate, embossed, and finely veined, deep green leaves. Evergreen throughout the growing period, it forms a beautiful setting for the flowers and fully contributes to the decorative effect. This primrose remains naturally compact, measuring 10 to 15 cm in height with a spread of 10 to 20 cm.

The Cabaret F1 series is specially designed to meet the demands of professionals: uniform flowering, regular growth without the need for growth regulators, good performance in cold or variable conditions, and excellent presentation that will delight gardeners and lovers of colourful plants.

Versatile, bright, and very easy to succeed with, primrose Cabaret 'Bicolour Rose & Yellow' finds its place in gardens as well as on balconies. With its late flowering, it extends the season of garden primroses while awakening spring compositions. In borders, it pairs with late narcissi such as 'Pipit' or 'Thalia', and accompanies botanical tulips such as 'Peppermint Stick'. In pots or planters, it forms a charming duo with pansies Viola x wittrockiana 'Matrix Lemon Clear' or forget-me-nots. It can also be planted under deciduous bushes, in damp rockeries or semi-shaded spots, where it will naturally find its place alongside muscari or spring hepaticas.

Note: Please note, our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transfer them as soon as possible into pots, planters, or directly into beds.

Planting and care

Plant Bicolour Rose & Yellow Primroses in containers and planters or directly in open ground in finely prepared and enriched soil as soon as possible after receipt, in September-October. If the intended location is not yet ready or conditions are unfavourable for planting, you can grow them on in pots for 4 to 6 weeks.

For containers and planters, use a good, light and well-draining, flowering plant compost (such as geranium compost) enriched with clay and slow-release fertiliser. The top of the root ball should be level with the compost. Water thoroughly at planting and during the following weeks, as plug plants can dry out quickly. However, be careful not to overwater! Ensure you use containers with drainage holes and empty the saucer 10 minutes after watering. Remember to water even during winter if it does not rain or if the container is placed in a sheltered location. Do not water during frosty periods.

Very floriferous and fast-growing, primroses are greedy plants. From the resumption of growth, late February to early March, and then throughout the flowering period, apply a liquid fertiliser for flowering plants containing iron and trace elements 1 to 2 times per week with the watering water. Remove faded flowers to encourage new flowering. Once flowering has finished, container-grown plants can be replanted in the garden in partial shade.
