The seeds sprouted well, I transplanted them but unfortunately the snails ate them. I will sow them again.

Description

The Garden Valerians in mix or Centranthus ruber Snowcloud in Latin, is a robust perennial plant naturally found in dry and sunny lands of Southern Europe.

The flowers carried at the end of the stems, are gathered in compact cymes of white color. The flowers are slightly scented. The flowering is very long as it usually starts in early May and ends with the arrival of the first cold in October. That's nearly 6 months of flowering out of 12! Additionally, it will make an excellent cut flower for your summer bouquets.

An ecological gesture: Throughout the summer, the nectar-bearing flowers of Centranthus ruber Snowcloud attract pollinating insects and butterflies to your garden. A good way to improve the ecosystem of your garden and vegetable patch.

Its upright stems bear opposite lanceolate leaves that are dark green with bluish reflections. The plant reaches a height of 80 to 100cm (39.4 in) when in bloom.

Valerian is an easy-to-grow plant that self-seeds. Plant it in well-drained, even dry, and especially sunny soil. It thrives in poor soils of rockeries, slopes, and even old walls.

Planting and care

Sow Valerian from March to June in a tray. Use good quality soil. Sow your seeds by broadcasting. Cover the seeds by sprinkling soil on top or vermiculite, lightly press down and water generously with a fine rain. Place your tray in light, without direct sunlight, at a temperature of 18°C to 20°C.

The seeds will germinate in 21 to 30 days. Once the plants have reached a height of 5 cm (2 in), transplant them into pots. 15 days before their final planting, start gradually acclimating them to a temperature of 15°C.

By the end of May or early June, the temperature in the garden will be warm enough to plant your young plants. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Space your plants 30 cm (11.8 in) apart.

Regularly remove faded flowers to promote new flowering.
