Arrived in good condition, but very small. While waiting for the outdoors, they are regaining strength in a pot.

Description

We offer you a collection of 5 Nasturtiums. It consists of:

2 large yellow Nasturtiums with orange spots

3 large red Nasturtiums

Nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus) is an annual climbing vine-plant reaching 2.5 m (8ft) in height, with round leaves of about 4cm (2in) of light green colour.

Its fast growth and continuous flowering from May to the first frost make it a preferred choice as a climbing plant, as well as ground cover for all types of terrain, including slopes and walls. It thrives in poor soils. You can also cultivate it in a pot, where it will make an elegant trailing plant. Originally from South America, it was introduced to Europe as a vegetable plant under the name "Peruvian cress"; it is now more often used as a biological aphid control (it attracts all the aphids in the vicinity, thus protecting nearby vegetables or fruit trees) than as a salad ingredient.

Green plug plants measuring 4 to 8cm (2 to 3in), sold in individual cases of 5 small plugs with a diameter of 2.8 cm (1in) and a height of 4 cm (2in). Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted directly in the ground.

Individually labelled.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered place (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks, before planting them outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your nasturtiums in open ground or in a pot. If planting in open ground, wait until the last frosts have passed. In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant your nasturtiums in a sunny site. They are very tolerant and thrive in poor soil. Very floriferous and fast-growing, they can reach 2m (7ft) in just one summer. Remember to provide support if you use them as climbing plants. You can easily take cuttings from the stems. Nasturtiums attract aphids, so keep an eye out for them and treat as they  appear.
