Planting and care

Plant your roses in partial shade or full sun. Roses are tolerant but will not appreciate excessive limestone. They will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well-worked and sufficiently rich. They are not particularly susceptible to diseases, but if you notice spotted or affected leaves, remove them promptly. Work the soil by crumbling it. If required, enrich the soil with dried blood or dehydrated horn, for example, at the bottom of the planting hole. Water generously after planting to eliminate air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting. As it is very vigorous, there is no need to prune it back severely. Prune in spring after the risk of frost. Take the opportunity to remove dead wood and open up the centre. For pruning, choose an eye that points outward and make a slanted cut just above it. Above all, do not remove faded flowers, as this would deprive you of decorative fruits.
