Description

Salvia nemorosa 'Blauhügel' is a compact sage that does not exceed 40cm (16in) in height, forming countless spikes of deep blue flowers reminiscent of lavender. The 'Blauhügel' sage is THE perfect compact perennial for filling borders. It produces a mass of upright blue flowers from June onwards. It flowers until late summer, provided the faded flower spikes are removed with shears. Tolerant of dry soil, Salvia nemorosa 'Blauhügel' likes light, rich and well-draining soils. It only likes the sun and appreciates a slight moisture in the middle of summer. Moderately hardy, this perennial sage is sensitive to winter waterlogging and requires good drainage in heavy soils with a cold climate. This plant that enhances the colours of other plants allows for a multitude of planting combinations. We often use it in full sun borders, combined with blue and yellow flowers punctuated by light grasses.
