Two very beautiful, strong and healthy bare-root rose bushes. I gave one to a friend. I am eagerly awaiting the blooming.

Description

Rose Hameau Duboeuf® 'Ordassac' is dedicated to the eponymous park, the only one in Europe entirely devoted to the history and viticultural practices of Beaujolais. It is a modern hybrid tea rose with intensely red and beautifully scented flowers. They are born on a vigorous plant with strong vegetation and beautiful dark green foliage that is highly resistant to diseases. The flowering begins in late spring and continues until the first frost. Simply remarkable in beds, perfect in vases. This variety also adapts very well to container gardening.

Rose Hameau Duboeuf® is a bush rose with large flowers recently obtained by Orard. It is a bushy and upright shrub that reaches 90cm (35in) to 1m (3ft) in height and 60cm (24in) in width at maturity, with rapid growth. It produces solid, slightly stiff and thorny branches that bear very elegant, sturdy foliage of glossy green, which is not very susceptible to diseases. The young shoots are coloured purple, copper, and bronze. Throughout the growing season, if faded flowers are removed, the plant continuously produces large turbinate flowers measuring 7 to 8cm (3in) in diameter, composed of 50 petals. They are solitary or grouped in small bouquets and borne at the ends of long shoots from the current year or emerging from 2-year-old stems. Their scent is intense and intoxicating, with aromas of flowers, fruit peels, and spices. The deciduous foliage falls in autumn and reappears in spring.

Rose Hameau Duboeuf, with its perfect large red roses, is ideal as a standalone plant in a well-maintained small garden or in a large pot on the terrace. It is also perfect for use in large monochrome borders, as its elegance is enough on its own. It can also be paired with white or shades of pink, mauve, or purple roses. To accompany it, consider, for example, white panicle phlox ('Fujiyama', 'Tiara'...) or mauve ('Olympus', 'Flame Marine'...), Penstemons, daisies, but also the dark foliage of certain Physocarpus ('Burgundy Candy'), or the feathery foliage of bronze fennel. Its cut flowers, with their strong fragrance and long-lasting quality, are naturally perfect for bouquets.

Planting and care

Plant your Hameau Duboeuf Rose bush in a sunny or lightly shaded location. Modern roses are tolerant, but they do not appreciate excess limestone. They will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked, not too heavy, and sufficiently rich. To install your rose bush, work the soil by crumbling it and place an amendment, such as dried blood or dehydrated horn, at the bottom of the planting hole. Water generously after planting to remove any air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root growth.

Pruning modern perpetual roses is essential for flowering. It is done in three steps:

1. Maintenance pruning: regularly shorten the flowering branches during the season. To encourage the reblooming of perpetual roses, remove faded flowers along with their stems, leaving 2 or 3 leaves.

2. Preparatory pruning in autumn: light pruning that anticipates the real spring pruning. It is not recommended in regions with cold winters to avoid weakening the bush.

3. Spring pruning: in February-March, when the buds have turned into shoots measuring 2 to 3cm (1in) in length, trim the young strong branches by a quarter of their length.

The purpose of pruning is always to open up the heart of the bush and remove dead wood, diseased branches, and weak shoots. Keep the most vigorous branches, usually 3 to 6 well-positioned ones, to maintain an attractive habit. Always prune at a 45-degree angle, about 1/2cm or 1cm above an outward-facing bud.
