Fuchsia Holly Beauty

The Holly Beauty trailing Fuchsia is a superb variety, early and floriferous, which bears giant double flowers, with pastel skirts, combining white with a very pale pink with lilac highlights. They will cascade along their stems, creating a magical sight. This variety is an excellent choice for hanging baskets. The plant is easy to grow in partial shade, in fertile, moist and light soil.

The 'Holly Beauty' Fuchsia belongs to the onagraceae family, it is a horticultural cultivar. Hybrid Fuchsias are countless, and mostly derived from Fuchsia magellanica and Fuchsia fulgens, sometimes with the contribution of Fuchsia triphylla, which brings length to the flowers, which are then characterized by thin tubes and violet-haired leaves. These are herbaceous plants with woody stems, more or less hardy and more or less erect or trailing. Botanical fuchsias originate from South America, the Caribbean and Australia.

The 'Holly Beauty' Fuchsia quickly forms a clump with a spreading and trailing habit, reaching 40 cm (15.7 in) in height with flowers and 50-60 cm (19.7 - 23.6 in) in width. Its flowering is renewed from June to September-October if care is taken to regularly remove forming fruits. Its large double flowers, 7 cm (2.8 in) in diameter, appear in great numbers and for a very long period. They are composed of a tube extended by 4 long and recurved sepals, almost white, and a corolla made up of multiple wider and shorter petals, pale lilac pink. Stamens and a long pink pistil complete the harmony of colors. The flexible stems, initially herbaceous, become somewhat woody over the season. They bear abundant foliage composed of leaves arranged in opposite pairs, grouped in whorls or clusters of 3 or 5. They are entire, lanceolate, with dentate margins, about 3-4 cm long. Their color is a fairly dark green. The foliage is deciduous and falls off in winter. The hardiness of this fuchsia does not exceed -3°C in open ground.

Usually grown as an annual, this Holly Beauty Fuchsia is a perennial that can be grown indoors, in a large pot that will be brought indoors during winter to protect it from frost, but also in open ground for a season, or even longer in very mild climates. Fuchsias pair well with the foliage of ferns, rodgersias, orange heucheras or light green hostas. In a large flower pot, they can be accompanied, for example, by Coleus, Euphorbia Diamond Frost, lobelias or bacopas with very delicate flowers. In the garden, fuchsias are remarkable alongside hydrangeas or annual Impatiens balfourii. Large-flowered varieties will be enhanced by erect varieties such as 'Price Noir' or 'Winston Churchill'.

Discovered in Santo Domingo in the 17th century and acclimatized in Europe, it was named Fuchsia (not Fuschia) in honor of a German botanist named Fuchs. Native to South America, botanical Fuchsias have gradually been multiplied. There are now said to be tens of thousands of hybrids!

Green plants, 4 to 8 cm in plug plants of 5 small plugs, 2.8 cm (1.1 in) in diameter and 4 cm (1.6 in) in height. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted in open ground.

Note: Please be aware, our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, repot and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.
