Description

Buddleia davidii Masquerade is a bush with a hardy habit, highly decorative with its bright foliage, green marginate with cream, and its dense spikes of purple-violet flowers.

Maligned by some, Buddleia davidii has a significant advantage: its melliferous flowering! It's not for nothing that it's called the Butterfly Bush. With a bushy habit, this Buddleia develops deciduous, opposite, ovate leaves, 10 to 30cm (3.9 to 11.8in) long, bright, green marginate with cream, on arching branches. From July to September, it bears upright, melliferous, purple-violet flower spikes, 20cm (7.9in) long, whose pleasant scent attracts many butterflies.

Originally from China, Buddleia davidii Masquerade likes well-drained soil, in a sunny position, not too windy. Remove faded flowers as they appear to limit its spread and prune severely from March to April.

The fast-growing Buddleia davidii Masquerade can be used as a standalone plant or in a mass of white-flowered Potentillas. In a free hedge accompanied by Laurustinus, Photinias, and flowering currants.

Care

Pruning instructions The bush only requires a single pruning after flowering. However, every 2 to 3 years, it is advisable to cut back the branches to maintain a compact habit and prevent the bush from becoming "open". In late winter, around March or April, remove half or even two-thirds of the branches and cut away all dead wood. Buddleias flower on new growth, so you won't risk removing the forthcoming flowers.
Pruning Pruning recommended once a year
