Planted last May, my Deutzia seems to have taken well and grown a bit; definitely looking healthy. Can't wait for spring to see it bloom!

Deutzia setchuenensis Corymbiflora is a remarkable variety of Deutzia, with its endless airy flowering from June to October, sometimes with a small break in the middle of summer. Not very tall, forming a rather upright bush, this shrub tirelessly produces clouds of small white stars gathered in light and round inflorescences. They stand out well against a grey-green foliage that often takes on beautiful shades in autumn before falling. Easy to grow in ordinary soil and in partial shade, it is suitable for container cultivation and small spaces, and can be used to brighten up a slightly dark area of the garden.
Deutzia setchuenensis Corymbiflora belongs to the Saxifragaceae family. It is a horticultural selection with a compact and particularly floriferous habit of Deutzia setchuenensis Corymbiflora, sometimes called the Sichuan Deutzia. The latter, native to China, was introduced by Dr. Favier and belongs to the Saxifragaceae family. It has a bushy, upright and compact habit. At maturity, it will not exceed 1 m (3 ft 4 in) in height and 90 cm (35.4 in) in width. Its growth is rather fast. The abundant and remarkably long flowering takes place from June to October without interruption if the soil remains moist. The small pure-white star-shaped flowers have 5 petals and are grouped in round clusters called corymbs, characteristic of the species. Gently fragrant, they attract pollinating insects and stand out nicely against the somewhat dark-coloured leaves. The deciduous and light foliage is composed of ovate leaves with finely serrated edges, a dark matte grey-green colour with bluish reflections. They turn reddish-purple in autumn.
Somewhat out-dated survivors of older gardens, deutzias, like lilacs and old roses, are among those almost indestructible shrubs that require little effort but provide a lot of satisfaction to the gardener. In the garden, Deutzia setchuenensis Corymbiflora discreetly stands out throughout the growing season, surrounded by a cloud of white flowers. As it tolerates partial shade well, it is valuable for adding a refined and bright touch to darker areas of the garden. It will easily integrate into a small garden and, planted in a large pot, will be a beautiful shrub for the terrace, interesting for a good part of the year.

Botanical data
Deutzia setchuenensis var. corymbiflora requires little maintenance. It is satisfied with a completely ordinary, well-drained, even limestone soil, as long as it is relatively deep. This shrub tolerates partial shade very well and even shade in hot climates. It will, however, be more floriferous in humus-rich and well-drained soil, and planted in a sunny position. It dreads compact soils and waterlogged soils in winter. Its hardiness is excellent (down to -20 °C (-4 °F)).

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
