Description

The plants in the Viola wittrockiana 'F1 Supreme' mix offer brightly coloured flowers for a very long period, against all odds, even in winter and despite bad weather. This selection of early pansies, with their uniform flowers in all colours, is ideal for brightening up borders and decorating balconies or terraces in autumn, and again in late winter, reaching its peak between March and June. These biennials grow quickly and are easy to cultivate in humus-rich, well-drained soil, in full sun or partial shade.

Garden pansies, sometimes called Swiss giant pansies, are actually hybrids grouped under the name Viola x wittrockiana. They belong to the violet family and are most often grown as annuals or biennials, although they are theoretically perennial but short-lived. The plants that make up the 'F1 Supreme' mixture are well-branched, quickly forming clumps 20 cm (7.9 in) tall and 15 to 20 cm (7.9 in) wide. They begin to flower as early as October and last until the end of spring. The 'F1 Supreme' pansies produce large, fully open flowers. In this series the flowers are uniform, brightly coloured in white, red, purple, mauve, blue, pale pink, and orange. The petals are arranged around a tiny bright yellow and white center. The medium green leaves are elliptical and widely serrated.

If you love them in the garden you will greatly appreciate them in window boxes, to enjoy from inside while keeping warm. Plant alongside primroses, wallflowers, grape hyacinths, daisies, and even with grasses like Japanese sedge for a graphic effect with a contemporary feel. Combine them with heucheras and tulips. The bluish-green color of glaucous fescues also highlights them well.

The petals of pansies are edible, and their colours will bring a touch of originality to your salads and pastries. For this purpose, think of growing them as you would your vegetables - in the most natural way possible.

Please note that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible into pots, or directly into flower beds.

Planting and care

Floriferous and fast-growing, the 'Supreme' F1 Mix pansies are hungry and appreciate a sunny or partially shaded site. They thrive in a humus-rich, neutral to acidic, moist and fertile soil. Feed them with liquid fertiliser for containers once or twice a week during the growing period. Water regularly but not excessively. Remove faded flowers regularly to promote new blooms.
