Description

The 'Tom Thumb' Triumph Tulip is a variety with an unusual, bold, but undeniably spring-like colour. In May, it produces elegantly cup-shaped flowers in a soft pink colour, animated by a contrasting creamy yellow base. A cheerful colour combination that stands out in a flower border or mass planting. It will be enhanced by the lightness of white or pink forget-me-nots, and the simplicity of daisies.

The 'Tom Thumb' Triumph Tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, introduced to the market in 2006, it is currently classified in the 'Triumph' group, whose main characteristic is to have narrow cup-shaped flowers. The "Triumph" tulips are the result of a cross-breeding between "early single-flowered" and "Darwin" tulips. This 'Tom Thumb' variety develops a strong flowering stem, averaging 40-45 cm (16-18in) in height. Its flower measures about 7 cm (3in) in diameter and is distinctly bicoloured. It blooms between late April and May, towards the end of the tulip season. The foliage emerges from the ground in spring. It consists of large lanceolate leaves, 10 to 35 cm (4 to 14in) long, in a glaucous green colour that turns yellow and then dries up a few weeks after flowering, when the bulb goes into dormancy. This tulip is named after a very sweet Dutch pastry.

Triumph tulips are unmatched in bringing the colours of spring to pots or sunny gardens. Don't forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your borders, as these parameters vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make gorgeous cut flowers that last a long time in a vase. The 'Tom Thumb' tulip finds its place in large beds and borders, in combination with white tulips, but also amidst pink or yellow flowers. Consider planting its bulbs among lady's mantle and euphorbias, the combination of colours and textures is perfect. Tulips are also beautiful flowers to cut.
