This brand new pelargonium combines the qualities of its two parents, the ivy pelargonium and the zonal pelargonium. Its umbels of single, brightly coloured flowers, in two shades of pink, cover a vigorous and ramified young plant, with abundant foliage, which offers excellent resistance to diseases, weather conditions, and drought. And of course, it is in flower from May until the first frost. A champion in all categories for balconies!

Description

The interspecific Pelargonium 'Two-In-One Hot Pink Splash' is an extraordinary new variety of pelargonium, which combines many qualities. Its single flower umbels, with a fresh and vibrant pink colour enhanced by a dark pink eye, stand out against a well-furnished and healthy foliage. They bloom abundantly on a vigorous, well-branched and robust plant that offers excellent resistance to heat, bad weather and drought. And of course, it flowers from the end of March until the first frosts. A champion in all categories for balconies!

This hybrid pelargonium is a recent creation, resulting from the crossbreeding between a Pelargonium peltatum, the ivy-leaved pelargonium, and a P. zonale, both of which are frost-sensitive plants from the Geraniaceae family native to South Africa. 'Two-In-One Hot Pink Splash' has the particularity of having 'zonale'-type flowers and leaves, forming strong stems like zonal pelargoniums, while retaining the disease resistance of ivy-leaved pelargoniums. Always more floriferous and with rapid growth, it offers vigorous, upright vegetation and quickly forms a tuft about 50 cm (19.7 in) in height and 35-40 cm (13.8 - 15.7 in) in width, with peltate, circular, medium green leaves that are slightly fleshy and aromatic. The remarkably long and abundant flowering takes place from March-April until the first frosts. Pelargoniums, which are not very hardy (up to -4 or -5°C), can nevertheless survive in open ground in our mildest southern regions: then they become true bushes, showing their full potential. In nature, their ancestors are plants that grow in difficult soil and climate conditions!

Florist geraniums are generous and undemanding plants, but this variety 'Two-In-One Hot Pink Splash' surpasses them in vigor and robustness. It is a perfect plant to decorate containers for a large part of the year, without requiring much maintenance. Once reserved for balconies and terraces, pelargoniums are now making a very noticeable entrance into sunny flower beds and borders. Plant them en masse to create a lasting and cheerful decoration throughout the beautiful season. These plants tolerate water shortage quite well, allowing them to be combined with garden verbenas, lobelias with incredible blues, and black or purple-leaved ipomeas (Ipomoea Illusion Midnight Lace, Ipomoea Sweet Heart Purple). Create beautiful pots and hanging baskets by combining them with white or red varieties, Million Bells, variegated periwinkles, Dichondra Silver Falls, violets, calibrachoas...

Note: Please be aware that our young plants in mini-pots are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered place (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before placing them outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your interspecific pelargoniums in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed. In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth.

Pelargoniums will flower for a long period. Plant them in a sunny or partially shaded location, sheltered from strong winds. They need a light and humus-rich soil, but above all well-draining, as they tolerate water shortage quite well but not stagnant moisture. Do not water them too much at the beginning of the growing season as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well, but will need regular watering during hot summer temperatures, especially when grown in pots. Pelargoniums are frost sensitive (minimum -2°C).

Very floriferous and fast growing, they are hungry. We recommend feeding them with a liquid pelargonium fertilizer once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves regularly to keep them looking good and prolong flowering.

Note: in our mildest southern regions, pelargoniums can remain in the ground all year round. They then become true bushes that reach their full potential. Their ancestors originate from regions in South Africa that experience a Mediterranean-like climate, very sunny and very dry in summer but mild in winter.
