Tulipa Attila - Triumph Tulip

The Triumph Tulip 'Attila' is an old variety that still seduces with the complex and changing colours of its large flower. It has a well-formed classic cup shape which begins a beautiful, slightly muted purple shade, then lightens, taking on red, purple, and pink nuances as it matures. It flowers on a long, sturdy stem, in the middle of the tulip season, from mid to late spring, depending on the climate. This harmony of deep, baroque shades will be enhanced by pink, purple, or blue flowers. 

The 'Attila' Tulip is in the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, introduced to the Netherlands in 1945, it is currently classified in the 'Triumph' group, whose main characteristic is to have narrow cup-shaped flowers. It will reach a height of 50 cm (20in) when in bloom and is very resistant to rain and wind. The single flowers are satin-textured, violet, and narrow-cup-shaped when they bloom, opening up a little more as they mature while changing colour, perched on stems with widely lanceolate blue-green leaves. It flowers in April-May, in the heart of the tulip season. 

Triumph tulips are famous for their richly coloured, solid and resistant flowers, useful in flowerbeds and bouquets. They are among the most planted varieties, and many of them have become classic cut flowers. Tulips are unmatched for bringing the colour of spring to pots or sunny gardens, but remember to consider the height and flowering period when designing your flowerbeds, as these can vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is a good idea to plant a few more bulbs for superb long-lasting cut flowers. 'Attila', with its rich and changing colour, will pair beautifully with pale orange or romantic pastel pink or blue tones. A Burnt Toffee, Obsidian or Beguine iris, will be superb by its side. Combining tulips will also create different harmonies. Associate them with foliage plants like lady's mantle or Tiarella, which will cover the space left empty by their dry foliage in summer.
