Tulipa greiggii

Originating from Central Asia and northeastern Iran, Tulipa greigii was cultivated from wild bulbs, after being brought back from Uzbekistan to Germany in 1871. The flowering is later than that of kaufmanniana tulips. These tulips thrive in borders and rockeries, among other small bulbs with early flowering such as crocuses, Ipheion uniflorum, Anemone blanda, and small-flowered daffodils.

Among the reliable choices, we can mention 'Oriental Splendour', a bright carmine with a lemon yellow border on the outside, and solid lemon yellow on the inside of the petals, or 'Plaisir', a shorter one, which borders its bright red flower with sulfur yellow, while its base is golden yellow and black. 'Sweet Lady' adorns itself with a delightful orange-pink. These are reliable plants, found year after year in the garden, faithful to their appointment, with no specific requirements or maintenance, except for the concern not to forget them when they go to sleep in summer.
