Description

The 'Kansas Proud' Triumph Tulip is a high-class tulip, ideal for adding a touch of glamour to spring borders and beds. Its large flower with silky and velvety reflections is subtly bicoloured, brushed with a wine-colored purple, as if painted white at the base. Planted en masse, this variety has a great impact in the garden. Combine it with orange, pink, and violet flowers, or with late-flowering daffodils, and purple foliage for a guaranteed effect! Its stem withstands bad weather and looks wonderful in bouquets.

The 'Kansas Proud' Triumph Tulip belongs to the Lily family. Of horticultural origin, introduced to the market in 2019, it is currently classified in the 'Triumph' group, characterized by narrow cup-shaped flowers. They are the result of a cross-breeding between early single tulips and Darwin tulips. This 'Kansas Proud' variety develops a sturdy flower stem of about 45cm (18in) in height. Its flower is thick-textured and pleasantly bicolored. It blooms between late April and May, towards the end of the tulip season. The foliage emerges from the ground in spring. It consists of large lanceolate leaves with a glaucous green colour that turn yellow and dry a few weeks after flowering, when the bulb goes into dormancy.

Triumph tulips are unmatched for bringing spring colour to pots or sunny gardens. Do not forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your beds, as these parameters can vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make gorgeous long-lasting cut flowers'Kansas Proud finds its place in large beds or borders, in combination with other tulips in shades of pink, red, white, and purple, as well as with blue flowers. The forget-me-nots, the wood hyacinths, or the grape hyacinths will enhance the richness of its colour. Plant this 'Kansas Proud' tulip at the base of a Japanese maple with purple foliage, the combination of colours and textures is perfect. Tulips are also beautiful flowers to cut.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15cm (6in), spacing them 10cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in ordinary soil, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-drained. Never add uncomposted manure or compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. Tulips will grow well in moist to dry soil in summer. Plant them in a good location, sunny or partially shaded. After flowering, it is preferable to remove the fruits to avoid exhausting the plant.
