Tulipa Finola - Double Late Tulip

The 'Finola' Late Double Tulip is a tulip that you can't help but love. Like the famous 'Angelique', but taller on the stem, it offers a large peony-like flower, in a subtle blend of soft pink and pearly white. But its corolla is sometimes adorned with small green flames on the outside, which adds to its charm. Its late flowering, in May-June, is delightful in the garden as well as in bouquets, bringing the tulip season to a beautiful close.

The 'Finola' Tulip belongs to the lily family. Of horticultural origin, obtained in the Netherlands in 1999, this offspring of the superb 'Granda' tulip (1943) was named Bulb of the Year 2004. It is currently classified in the group of 'Late Double Tulips', whose main characteristic is to present very double and crumpled flowers, durable, carried by strong stems. 'Finola' is of good size (45 cm (18in)) and its 12cm (5in) flower is very double and well opened. It shows excellent holding power. Its colour palette, which evolves over the days, includes light pink, white and a hint of pale green. The fragrance is light but very pleasant. It is a real favourite, especially when its buds slowly open in a vase, gradually shedding its petals. The flowering starts relatively late, in May, when other tulips have already withered for a long time.

Varied colours, tender or vibrant, opulent and naive flowers, late double tulips bring fantasy and romance in pots or in sunny gardens, in the company of the most beautiful spring blooms or pastel tulips like 'Angelique', 'Creme Up Star' and 'Maureen Double' or, on the contrary, dark ones like 'Queen of the Night' or 'Cuban Night'. Don't forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your flowerbeds, as these parameters vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for bouquets, as they last a long time in a vase, and that's where the fragrant flowers of 'Finola' will give the greatest satisfaction.
