Tulipa crispa Bastia - Fringed Tulip

Tulipa 'Bastia' bears large double flowers in a stunning combination of golden yellow and deep pink. The petals display pretty fringes. It is perfect in flower beds, in a large pot, or arranged in bouquets. This robust variety offers a dazzling display in May.

Tulipa 'Bastia' belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, it is classified in the 'Crispa' group, whose main characteristic is to have finely dentate petal tips. This tulip will reach a height of 40cm (16in) when in bloom. Flowering takes place in April-May, a little later than that of other tulips. The flowers are double, round, and cup-shaped, with a variegated colour. The fringed edges of this magnificent tulip are generally golden yellow. The flowers last a long time, extending the tulip season until May.

Double dentate tulips are perfect in large flower beds. Combine 'Bastia' with other white, yellow or red tulips to maximise the flowering season. It can be used in borders, in rock gardens, pots, and planters. This tulip enhances balconies and patios very well. It pairs perfectly with tall perennials, foliage plants like fennel or cachrys, small blue or white flowers like forget-me-nots and alyssums, and pansies or primroses. We recommend planting heucheras, tiarellas, brunneras, bleeding hearts and cypress spurge in the foreground of your flower beds. Their foliage will enhance the colours of the tulips and will elegantly conceal the tulip's yellowed leaves.
