Description

The 'Disneyland Paris' Early Double Tulip, formerly marketed as 'Double Orange Emperor', is an early variety with slightly tousled flowers in a vibrant orange with salmon undertones and green flames. These large flowers on short, sturdy stems bloom from the first warm days of April. They demonstrate good longevity in the ground and excellent vase life.

The 'Disneyland Paris' Tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, it is currently classified in the group of 'Early Double Tulips', whose main characteristic is the presence of large double flowers, resembling those of the gardenia, carried by rather short stems. This variety will reach a height of 35 cm when in bloom. Perched on stout stems just above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the flowers, with a minimum diameter of 7 cm, stand out in the garden with their bright orange colour. The slightly fragrant flowering takes place in April, at the beginning of the tulip season.

The 'Disneyland Paris' tulip, of modest size and early flowering, harmonises perfectly with small spring bulbs such as muscari, small-flowered daffodils, Siberian squill, chionodoxa, and ipheion. The combination of orange flowers with acid green euphorbias or white flowers is very elegant. To accompany this tulip, the blue flowers of Caucasian forget-me-not, thlaspi, alyssum, and aubrieta are harmonious choices. Known for their vibrant colour palette and robustness, early double tulips are ideal for borders and bouquets. They are among the most popular varieties for their ability to add a touch of charm early in the season, whether in pots or sunny gardens. When planning your borders, take into account the height and flowering time, which can vary significantly depending on the varieties. It is a good idea to plant extra bulbs, as these tulips make excellent cut flowers with a long vase life.

Planting and care

Place the Disneyland Paris Tulips in a sunny or partially shaded location, sheltered from strong winds, from October to December for a spring flowering. Plant the bulbs in a light and well-drained soil, loosened to a depth of 15 cm. Space the bulbs 10 cm apart without touching each other to create a mass effect; cut the flower stems after flowering. Allow the leaves to dry completely before cutting them. Tulips do not like stagnant moisture.
