Very beautiful flower with a short stem, magnificent colour but slightly lighter than in the picture, more orangish. Lasts a long time. All the purchased bulbs bloomed in the first year.

The very doubled flower of this Tulip blooms in a large, open and well-formed cup, then blossoms like a peony displaying an absolutely stunning coppery pink colour. It blooms on a short stem, after the early single tulips, in April. This flowering lasts a long time in the garden, but also in a vase. Amazing!

Description

The 'Copper Image' Double Tulip is a recently introduced variety that is absolutely astonishing, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful obtained in recent years, if not decades. This variety's very doubled flower astonishes with its unique colour, intermediate between copper and pink with a touch of burnt orange and a hint of green on the outside, and the way it unfolds like a peony with multiple petals. Beautiful as a heart, this voluptuous flower is perched at the end of a short stem that is very resistant to bad weather and emerges from a broad bluish foliage. Its flowering follows that of early single tulips.

The 'Copper Image' Tulip, introduced in 2015, is in the same vein as the delightful 'Brownie' or the moving 'Amazing Grace' with which it is often associated. All these plants belong to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, it is currently classified in the group of early double tulips, whose main characteristic is to bloom at the same height, making them a popular category among enthusiasts of well-arranged flowerbeds. They are often offered in a mix of colours under the name 'Murillo' tulips. Perched on strong 35-40 cm (14-16in) stems, just above the widely lanceolate leaves, the very double flowers, 12 cm (5in) wide at full bloom, in a colour rarely encountered in tulips, open almost flat. Flowering takes place in April, in the heart of the tulip season.

With their rich colours, sturdy and resistant flowers, suitable for both flowerbeds and bouquets, the reputation of double tulips with peony-like flowers is well established. It is no coincidence that they are among the most commonly used varieties for cut flowers. Unmatched for bringing the colours of spring to pots or sunny gardens, don't forget to consider the height and flowering period of tulips when designing your flowerbeds, as these parameters can vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make beautiful cut flowers that last a long time in a vase. 'Copper Image', with its fabulous coppery rosewood colour, pairs beautifully with 'Sweet Amy', 'Amazing Grace', 'Brownie', as well as the blue flowers of muscari or wood hyacinths.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15 cm (6in), spacing them 10 cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in ordinary soil, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-draining. Never add undecomposed manure or compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. Tulips will thrive in moist to dry soil. Plant them in a sunny or partially shaded location. Once flowering is finished, it is preferable to remove the fruits to avoid exhausting the plant.
