Chionodoxa or Glory-of-the-Snow are small bulbous plants that form beautiful flowering carpets in early spring. Native to Asia Minor, these hardy plants, similar to scillas, form clumps of basal leaves, shaped like gutters, reminiscent of hyacinths. The clusters of star-shaped flowers, blue with a white centre for Chionodoxa luciliae, are carried on long erect stems. There are 6 species including Chionodoxa luciliae 'Alba' with white flowers or Chionodoxa forbesii 'Pink Giant', with pinkish-lavender flowers. Chionodoxas grow in permeable, loose soil, not too rich, in partial shade or light sun. They can also be grown in containers and forced indoors. Low maintenance, the plant naturalises well in borders, rockeries, woodland areas, slopes, and pots. Tip: Reserve Chionodoxas for gardens in temperate regions, as they do not thrive in hot and dry climates.

You'll adore them!
