Our range of Dichelostemma includes bulbous plants with a unique charm, adding an exotic and colourful touch to sunny flower beds. Among them, the Dichelostemma ida-maia, also known as the Firecracker Flower" or "Tear of Fire", produces pendulous bell-shaped flowers that are scarlet red on the outside and pale green on the inside. This species is particularly appreciated for its spectacular flowering in late spring and early summer. The Dichelostemma congestum offers compact inflorescences of small star-shaped purple flowers grouped in dense umbels. It naturalises easily in well-drained soil. Dichelostemma prefer full sun and thrive in light, well-drained, even stony, dry soil in summer. It is advisable to mulch them in winter to protect the bulbs from frost in cold regions as they are only relatively hardy. Planting is preferably done in late summer or autumn, to enjoy a beautiful flowering the following spring. Native to the western United States, these plants are perfect for creating flowering meadows, borders, or rock gardens.
