The Eranthis , also known as Winter aconite, is a small perennial bulbous plant, or more precisely tuberous, that blooms very early in the season, between late January and March. It belongs to the family of Ranunculaceae, like the famous buttercup. In gardens, the main cultivars are the Eranthis hyemalis and Eranthis cilicica, two species that easily naturalise in well-drained, calcareous soils. The Eranthis forms carpets over time adorned with small yellow flowers delicately scented that are appreciated for their cheerfulness at a time of year when flowers are rare. Discreet throughout the rest of the year until disappearing in summer, easy to grow, perfectly hardy, the Eranthis grows almost everywhere in Europe without requiring any maintenance.
