A collection of 'Kelos' Celosias, three different varieties with purple, red, or yellow flower heads depending on the plant. These are rather compact Celosias (35-40cm tall) that offer a brilliant and long-lasting flowering. Frost-tender perennials, they are grown as annuals, adding color to bouquets, beds, borders, and containers. The 'Kelos' Celosia is planted from April onwards, in a sunny position, in a light and moist soil.

Description

This Celosia Collection brings together three varieties from the 'Kelos' series® selected for their compact habit and spectacular flowering in brightly coloured 10-12cm spikes. They bloom from July to September, in the garden or in pots on the terrace. Perennial but frost-sensitive, these plants are often grown as annuals, in a sunny location, in rich and moist soil. They bring a real panache to borders, edges, and flower pots, and also make lovely conservatory plants. Their flowers, fresh or dried, last a long time in a vase.

This collection is sold in sets of 5 plug plants, 5 of each variety, totaling:

x 2 Celosia spicata Kelos 'Fire Purple' with richly coloured purple to pink and violet reflections spikes. Its foliage, green tinged with purple, forms a beautiful backdrop for the flowers.

x 2 Celosia spicata Kelos 'Fire Red': its flowers, the same size as the previous variety, are a beautiful burgundy red, and its foliage is dark green.

x 1 Celosia spicata Kelos 'Fire Yellow': its plume-like inflorescences, resembling slender flames, are bright yellow. Its foliage is green.

These 'Kelos' Celosias are frost-sensitive perennial plants that can be overwintered indoors to be kept from year to year. Most often, they are considered seasonal annuals. They are planted in spring, after the last frost. They thrive in well-prepared and loosened, moist soil, in pots or in the ground. In the garden, these flowers bring life to borders and flower beds. Maximum flowering is achieved in a sunny location. The plants should be regularly watered in dry weather, especially those in pots. Allow 8 to 9 plants per square metre, with approximately 30cm spacing between each for optimal development.

Combine the 3 varieties of this collection with plants that have a more subdued appearance, with light flowers and foliage. Common lady's mantle and fennel will enhance their spikes and temper their flashy colours. In a flower pot, plant some blue or white annual lobelias to surround their base. You can also combine different varieties of plume Celosias by playing with colours.

The 'Kelos' Celosia is perfect for fresh or dried bouquets, especially since the flower retains its beautiful colors for a long time. To dry the flowers, hang them upside down in a shady place for two months.

Green plants measuring 4 to 8cm in packs of 5 small plug plants, 2.8cm in diameter and 4cm high, labeled separately. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted in the ground.

Note: Attention, our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (conservatory, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

The 'Kelos' Celosia appreciates heat, so place it in full sun and grow it outdoors, in the ground or in pots, after the frost. In the meantime, you can grow the young plants in individual pots, in a rich and light soil kept slightly moist. Transplant them, spacing them 30cm apart. Celosia should not lack water throughout the growth and flowering period. In pots, apply flowering plant fertilizer every 15 days. Remove faded flowers as they appear.

At the end of autumn, you can uproot the Celosia plants or move them to a bright, frost-free location to spend the winter.
