Description

The Tulip 'Mondial' double early presents magnificent double flowers, with numerous petals of pure white, delicately arranged around a yellow heart, reminiscent of the beauty of a peony flower. This charming tulip is easy to grow and weather-resistant, making it a perfect choice for borders, beds, pots, and containers. It can be paired with other spring-flowering bulbs and seasonal flowers to create elegant compositions. The stunning flowers of this tulip variety also add elegance to bouquets. It blooms just after early single tulips.

The 'Mondial' double early Tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Originating from horticulture, it is classified in the group of double early tulips, known for blooming at the same height, making them a popular choice for well-organised flower beds. Perched on strong 40-50 cm (16-20in) stems, just above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the fully open, 9 to 11 cm (4in) wide double flowers consist of dense and colourful petals. The flowers are composed of numerous petals of a beautiful pure white colour. The flowering takes place in April, at the heart of the tulip season. The foliage, composed of beautiful glaucous green lanceolate leaves, turns yellow and then dries up a few weeks after flowering, while the bulb goes into dormancy.

Double early tulips add a touch of originality in terms of colours, whether in flower beds or bouquets, while being resistant and suitable for climate variations. When creating your flower beds, it is essential to consider the height and flowering period, as these characteristics vary from one variety to another. It is recommended to plant a few extra bulbs specifically for cutting, as these tulips offer beautiful cut flowers that stay fresh for a long time in a vase. The 'Mondial' tulip easily integrates into all styles of gardens. In a contemporary garden, it creates a stunning contrast with varieties such as Triomphe 'Fontainebleau' or double early 'Palmyra'. With its beautifully white double flowers, it brings charm and elegance to a romantically inspired garden, alongside pale pink tulips like double early 'Melrose' or deep pink tulips like double early 'Double Price'. To enhance 'Mondial' tulips in a natural garden, you can associate them with blue or pink flowers such as muscari, crocus, hyacinths, forget-me-nots, primroses, and pansies. Yellow bulbous plants like daffodils are also an excellent choice, as well as foliage plants like heucheras.

Planting and care

Plant the 'Mondial' tulip bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15 cm (6in), spacing them 10 cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in ordinary soil, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-drained. Never add undecomposed manure or compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. The tulip will thrive in moist to dry soil in summer. Plant it in a sunny or partially shaded location. After flowering, it is best to remove the fruits to avoid exhausting the plant.
