Planted 5 specimens at the end of April, and one literally wilted away less than 10 days later. So now there are only 4 left. By mid-June, one finally started to bloom, but their size is still tiny, barely reaching 12/15 cm (5/6in) in height and not even 5 cm (2in) in width almost 7 weeks after planting. This creates quite a bit of empty space between the plants. I can hardly imagine them reaching 45 cm (18in) and filling the gap by the end of August, considering how slow their growth is. Thankfully, the temperatures have been well above average, as well as the sunshine. It's also fortunate that insects, as mentioned in the description, seem uninterested, otherwise it could cause irreversible damage with such slow growth. The flowering is consistent with the illustration.

Description

The Angelonia angustifolia Angelface Wedgewood Blue is an annual plant that is heat resistant and drought tolerant. It offers remarkably abundant flowering, with long clusters of small pale blue-violet flowers highlighted with white against fragrant, shiny green foliage. This new selection has vigorous, bushy growth and flowers from May to October. It is perfect for pots, containers, and hanging baskets. This undemanding plant thrives in the sun and requires little maintenance.

Angelonia angustifolia is a plant from the scrophulariaceae family, native to dry to semi-arid regions of Asia. Don't be fooled by the delicacy of this plant, as it is quite robust. This perennial plant, grown as an annual in our climates, has given rise to many cultivars, all of which have good drought and heat tolerance and seem to be unaffected by insects or diseases. 'Angelface Wedgewood Blue' is a variety that is as tall as it is wide. It forms a clump that reaches a height of 45cm (18in) when in flower, with an equivalent spread. From May to October, the plant produces flowering stems that bear numerous small flowers with a light background, speckled with blue-violet and highlighted by a white petal. They resemble both small orchids and snapdragons. The flowers emerge among the foliage, which consists of small, shiny, alternate, entire, lanceolate leaves.

The Angelonia Angelface Wedgewood Blue is an essential plant, easy to combine, and ideal for quickly creating a summer setting. This plant is resistant to both heat and rain. It is a great choice for borders, containers, and rock gardens. It is fantastic in large floral arrangements when paired with petunias or dark-leaved ipomoeas, trailing geraniums, diascas, trailing verbenas, and many other species suitable for full sun. It also makes long-lasting cut flowers.

Planting and care

Plant your Angelonia in a sunny location or possibly partial shade. They require a light, well-drained and humus-bearing soil and appreciate fertilization. They tolerate a rather dry soil quite well. You can grow your Angelonia in a pot or in the ground. In pots, they should be watered regularly. Remove faded flowers regularly, as this will promote the emergence of new flowers.
