Dianthus Sunflor Sinclair

Dianthus Sunflor Sinclair is a remarkable perennial double carnation, forming a round and well-branched plant, ideal for high-quality floral compositions. This selection from the Sunflor range stands out for its early flowering with many delicately scented flowers, from April to September. Suitable for growing in open ground or pots, this evergreen perennial is easy to maintain and hardy (to -10°C (14°F)). Its vigorous crimson-red flowers are continuous throughout the season. ‘Sinclair’ forms a cushion that can withstand dry, stony soils and likes a sunny exposure.

Carnation Sunflor Sinclair belongs to the Caryophyllaceae family, which includes plants like soapwort, sagina, and baby's breath. It is one of many varieties resulting from cross-breeding between Dianthus plumarius and Dianthus caryophyllus. Dianthus plumarius is a European perennial plant, the main ancestor of various old and moderb varieties of carnations. Dianthus caryophyllus is of Mediterranean origin and has passed on its wonderful clove fragrance and tolerance to limestone and dry soils. Carnation Sunflor Sinclair grows rapidly, reaching a maximum height and spread of 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8in). It forms a dense clump and produces 3 to 4 cm (1 to 2in) wide, round and double flowers, carried by short and often branched stems from April to October. Its linear, evergreen and tough leaves are a beautiful bluish-grey, pointed and smooth.

Dianthus Sunflor is a magnificent for terraces, balconies, borders, slopes, and rockeries. It is fairly drought resistant and needs plenty of sunlight with charming scented flowers. The different varieties of Sunflor, such as Sinclair, Megan, Evert, Cosmos, or Beetle will brighten your garden or any other space with their vibrant colours. To create small flowery cushions mix with other varieties of Sweet William (Dianthus plumarius), Rockroses, Silene schafta Splendens, Arabis, Wall Bellflowers, Moss Phlox (Phlox subulata), Aubrietias, Erigeron karvinskianus, Rock Soapwort (Saponaria ocymoides), or Bloody Cranesbill (Geranium sanguineum). To recreate the atmosphere of old-fashioned gardens, you can create a border with peonies and old-fashioned roses or combine with Munstead Lavender, Pincushion Pink Scabious, Dwarf Gaillardia, and Sunray Tickseed. To create a vibrant and colourful garden, combine them with annual plants like petunias, lobelias, and Endurascape Verbenas, offering a dazzling array of bright shades. Cosmos and osteospermums can extend the flowering period and add an attractive floral touch.
