Cat grass is a term that encompasses several plants, including Catnip (Nepeta cataria), which have euphoric effects on cats. However, the term "cat grass" also refers to young shoots of grasses such as common barley, oats, or wheat, sold in the form of a blend of seeds. These grasses allow cats to chew on non-toxic plants to purge themselves. Unlike Catnip, these grasses do not cause excitement but help cats purge and avoid ingesting harmful plants. The behaviour of cats towards plants dates back to their wild ancestors. It could be linked to an instinct to eliminate internal parasites, although this phenomenon is still poorly understood.
Sow cat grass regularly in pots on your terrace or balcony, or even inside your apartment, on a windowsill. You will make your little felines happy.
