Our range of Pistachio trees. The pistachio tree (Pistacia vera) is a Mediterranean fruit tree that produces the famous pistachio nuts. These sturdy and drought-resistant trees are characterised by their deciduous foliage and clusters of green fruits with hard shells. The female variety ‘Kerman’ is appreciated for its large flavourful nuts, while ‘Peters’ is often used as a pollinator for female pistachio trees. The ‘Sirora’ pistachio tree offers excellent quality nuts, ideal for eating fresh or cooking. The 'Aegina' variety is also popular for its superior quality fruits and disease resistance.
The pistachio tree is dioecious, meaning there are male and female plants, both necessary for pollination. It can reach a height of 5 to 10 metres and is characterised by its compound leaves with ovate leaflets. Flowering occurs in spring, followed by the formation of fruit clusters. They are wind pollinated.
Pistachio trees thrive in hot and dry climates, requiring well-drained soil and full sun exposure. These fruit trees require special attention during planting, with adequate spacing to allow for their development. Watering should be moderate, especially after the tree is established, and regular pruning promotes good fruiting. It is essential to plant at least one male pollinator variety downwind to ensure fruit production.
