Our range of ornamental asparagus, is a close relative of Asparagus officinalis, the vegetable asparagus from the vegetable garden. It is an elegant perennial plant with fine and delicate leaves. One of the most well-known is Asparagus densiflorus meyeri, nicknamed Cat Tail Asparagus. Often classified as ferns, its evergreen foliage, a very fresh apple green, is arranged in feathery variegated patterns. Asparagus pseudoscaber 'Spitzenschleier' is a robust and hardy species that is planted in the garden. Let's not forget Asparagus setaceus, the florists' asparagus loved in floral arrangements. Or Asparagus falcatus, or sickle asparagus, sharp, with long arched stems and sickle-shaped leaves, a frost-sensitive plant that thrives in a warm environment.
Asparagus are robust plants that prefer filtered light but also tolerate slightly shaded areas. These plants thrive in well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Watering should be moderate, allowing the substrate to dry between waterings to avoid excess moisture. Asparagus also appreciate high ambient humidity, especially if grown indoors.
These indoor or veranda plants can also be grown outdoors in regions with a mild climate, where they will add a touch of lightness and greenery to shaded beds.
