The young plant received is in good condition, I prepared the planting soil in advance in partial shade by working the garden soil deeply and mixing it with 2/3 acidophilous plant compost and 1/3 river sand. During the planting, I placed a 6 cm (2in) layer of bark around the plant without touching it, using a 8 cm (3in) piece of split plastic bottle lengthwise to position it around the foxglove.

I have ordered several types of foxgloves, and a few bear's breeches to place in a rather shady garden. I am amazed by the quick growth of the purpurea foxgloves compared to the other young plants received: they have started growing more vigorously than the others from the first few days after planting.
