In the world of kiwis, two species are known for their remarkable female varieties: Actinidia deliciosa 'Hayward' and 'Actinidia arguta 'Ken's Red'. The 'Hayward' variety is famous for its large, juicy, and hairy fruits. Actinidia arguta, often called Siberian kiwi, offers some delicious varieties like 'Ananasnaya'' which have small, smooth-skinned fruits with a slight pineapple aroma. The 'Bruno' variety of Actinidia deliciosa is characterised by its particularly fragrant, egg-shaped fruits. Among the Actinidias arguta, the 'Geneva' variety is renowned for its cold resistance and tasty small fruits. Meanwhile, the kiwai 'Ambrosia' stands out with its purple-speckled, highly aromatic fruits. Discover all our female kiwis on these pages.
Male kiwis are essential for pollinating female plants. A male plant can pollinate up to 5 or 6 female plants of the same species if they are compatible. Male flowers are usually larger and more fragrant to attract pollinating insects.
These fruiting climbers will need a sturdy support for training, well-drained soil, sunny exposure, and regular watering for optimal growth.
