Choosing the planting location

Bletillas are the hardiest of terrestrial orchids. They thrive in full sun in northern France and in partial shade in the south.

In the ground

Plant them in dappled shade, in light, fresh, slightly acidic compost, 5 to 7 cm deep, spaced 15 to 20 cm apart. In northern regions, we grow them in pots which we protect from frost in winter.

In a pot

Container cultivation: Place 3 to 5 bulbs per 20 cm diameter pot, using a mix of 1/3 potting compost, 1/3 sand and 1/3 garden soil. After flowering, remove the foliage and store the pots in a frost-free location until spring.
