1- What will I need?
Here’s a non-exhaustive list of materials you’ll require:
- One or more silicone moulds. A dish or bowl will also work;
- Water;
- String;
- A pair of scissors;
- Foliage from evergreen shrubs: Holly, Juniper, Eucalyptus, Spruce, Thuja;
- Berries: Rosehips, Barberries, Holly, Sea Buckthorn, Cotoneaster lacteus...;
- Secateurs for trimming branches and gathering berries;
- Seasonal fruits: kiwi, orange, pomegranate...;
- Small pine cones, hazelnuts, walnuts, birdseed...
2- How to make an ice hanging decoration
- Fill your mould or bowl three-quarters full with water;
- Create a loop with a piece of string to hang your decoration;
- Place the knotted end of the string into the water.
- Add your chosen fruits, seeds, foliage and other decorative elements to each mould;
- Place the mould in the freezer or outside overnight if temperatures are below freezing;
- Once your ice decorations are ready, simply hang them from tree branches and admire your handiwork.
3- Tips and advice
- Check the weather forecast to preserve your hanging decorations for as long as possible. You can always make more whenever you like;
- Larger compositions can be created to place on the ground, particularly for birds;
