Description

Alocasia 'Jacklyn' is a tropical plant distinguished by its deeply lobed leaves with prominent veins and remarkable texture. Native to Southeast Asia, this rare variety adds a striking touch of exoticism and sophistication to indoor spaces. Its architectural habit and elegantly divided leaves make this curious "elephant's ear" a top-tier decorative specimen for creating an immersive setting.

Belonging to the Araceae family, Alocasia 'Jacklyn' is a rhizomatous perennial native to the humid forests of Indonesia (Sulawesi and Kalimantan islands). Its spectacular leaves, shaped like a leading shoot, can grow up to 60 cm long and are borne on sturdy, streaked, brown-patterned petioles. The deep green foliage features almost black protruding veins that branch into finer ones. Near the veins, the surface is subtly tinged with black. The slightly velvety leaves are thick and edged with deep cuts, reminiscent of the natural patterns of tropical undergrowth plants. Indoors, the plant reaches about 80 cm in height and spreads up to 60 cm wide, while in its natural habitat, it can exceed 1.5 m. Although flowering is rare in cultivation, it occasionally produces discreet inflorescences typical of its family, consisting of a spadix surrounded by a pale spathe. Like its relatives, Alocasia 'Jacklyn' is toxic if ingested due to the presence of calcium oxalate in its vegetation.
Originating from Southeast Asia, Alocasia plants thrive in warm, humid tropical climates and partial shade. Stunning yet somewhat challenging to acclimate to our interiors, where air tends to be too dry, especially during winter, their roots are sensitive to both excess moisture and drought. The ideal temperature for cultivation is around 20°C. To counteract dry air, mist the foliage regularly.

Alocasia 'Jacklyn' is unparalleled for bringing a tropical atmosphere to your home. Place it in a bright and humid room, such as a bathroom with a window, a conservatory, or a spacious, well-lit living room, away from direct sunlight. To showcase it, plant it in a large ceramic pot. Pair it with plants like Monstera adansonii, Calathea orbifolia, Philodendron 'Moonlight', or Ficus elastica 'Tineke'. These plants will create a lush, dense green display. Maintain high humidity with regular misting or a humidifier, and ensure the soil remains slightly moist without waterlogging to keep the plant healthy.

Maintenance and care

Arrosez lorsque le substrat est sec sur 2 à 3 cm en surface. Réduisez les arrosages en hiver et évitez les excès d'eau qui provoquent la pourriture des racines.

Potting advice, substrates and fertilisers

Remove yellowed, spotted, or damaged leaves.

En cas de présence de cochenilles, utilisez un coton imbibé d’alcool à 70° pour les enlever manuellement. Traitez les araignées rouges en augmentant l’humidité de l'air
