More information

A highly interesting cultivar of a species rarely found on the market. It forms a rosette of elongated, very thick, veined and wrinkled leaves, displaying a stunning bright yellow to lime-green colour. Slightly more tolerant of light and humidity than crystallinum-type anthuriums, it thrives in bright to medium indirect light, moderate to high humidity, and temperatures between 18 and 25°C. A very well-draining substrate is essential for its growth.

Description

Anthurium jenmanii 'Gold' is a rare cultivar with bright yellow foliage. Its leaves are elongated, lanceolate, veined and wrinkled, but above all very thick, to the point that the botanical species (also uncommon) is nicknamed "the cardboard plant". Young leaves emerge in dark red to brown before developing a bright yellow to lime green hue as they grow. This is a "bird's nest" Anthurium with a rosette growth habit. Perhaps less spectacular than large cordate and variegated Anthuriums, its beauty should not be underestimated. Place it in a spot with bright indirect light and maintain high ambient humidity.

Belonging to the Araceae family, Anthurium jenmanii 'Gold' is a perennial with an upright, bushy habit, typically reaching 50 cm in height and 70 cm in spread. Its growth is moderate, gradually developing large, thick lanceolate leaves measuring up to 20 cm in length. These leaves have a glossy, veined and slightly wrinkled texture. Flowering, though subtle, may occasionally occur, producing a white or pink spathe accompanied by a spadix.

Native from Trinidad and Tobago to Brazil, Anthurium jenmanii is a species that grows naturally in humid tropical forests as well as dry, open woodlands and granite outcrops, where it can be terrestrial, epiphytic or epilithic. These natural conditions indicate that its requirements differ slightly from round-leaved anthuriums of the crystallinum type. Slightly less demanding, it tolerates average light conditions and slightly lower humidity, though always requiring a well-draining substrate for successful indoor cultivation.

Anthurium jenmanii 'Gold' is a stunning cultivar for those who appreciate it, with its exceptionally thick foliage offering a unique curiosity, enhanced by a vibrant, luminous colour. It integrates into any decor while commanding attention. Surround it with green or variegated foliage to create beautiful contrasts and evoke an atmosphere that is both exotic and refined.
